Staff that has experience handing basic daily operational tasks such as server installation and setup, maintenance, and backup and restore. Situation 2: Low- to Medium-Knowledge Staff Books or online text may be just as effective for these staff - as long as they are comprehensive. Slow-paced or shallow video, for example, may be perceived as a "waste of my valuable time." They prefer to self-pace rather than have information doled out. In other words, a course with a description similar to, "This course covers the fundamentals of server administration, but is not designed to be your sole instruction guide," probably won't be a good match. They will take responsibility understanding a topic before sitting for the exam. I am looking for courses that will cover the topics that are on the exams they need to take. I am not looking for courses to teach the "fundamentals" of anything or give them overviews. Secondarily, to round-out their knowledge on topics encountered less often in our environment. I want them to have a formal and marketable verification of their knowledge. Staff that I would consider subject-matter experts in their fields: networking, desktop OS, server OS, programming, and hardware. ![]() Situation 1: High-Knowledge, Experienced Staff If I do pay, the enhancement over free alternatives (such as not having to roll my own course from scattered resources) should be enough to justify the additional cost. Although, if I can get the same training for free, I'll take it. I just don't want a jigsaw puzzle that I have to put together.Ĭost is not necessarily a gating factor. This doesn't mean I don't expect the course to require practice or study. General Criteria: I'd prefer one-stop shopping if I pay for a course for MCSE, I don't expect to have to seek out other websites and build my own study guide or fill in missing topics. ![]() ![]() Simulators or labs are not required a full complement of hardware and software is available for staff use. Note: All of this is primarily for the Microsoft Windows & Server world with a bit of basic (inside the switch) networking tossed in. Summary: I am looking for training solutions for two very different situations and am open to two solutions, if appropriate.
